Kashawn Taylor is a formerly incarcerated writer based in CT. He holds a BA in English and Psychology and an MA in English and Creative Writing. Before his incarceration, he established a strong academic foundation, which he has continued to build upon during his time in prison. His "prison writing" has been featured in several publications, including Prison Journalism Project, The Blotter Magazine, Minutes Before Six, Evening Street Review's DIY Prison Project, Indiana Review, Fugitives and Futurists, and by Querencia Press in its Summer 2024 anthology.
Taylor's work will also appear in the inaugural issue of Beyond Bars from Georgia State University and Poetry Magazine. He has poetry forthcoming with The Shore Poetry, Emergent Literary, Union Spring, and Tufts University’s reSentencing. Additionally, he has essays forthcoming with Minutes Before Six and Bull Lit Mag. The first chapter of Violent Offender, his memoir detailing his experiences as a Black, queer, educated first-time inmate, was published by Oyster River Pages August 2024. His first traditionally published collection of poetry, subhuman, will be published in March 2025 by Wayfarer Books.
